Hormones are essential to our very existence and therapy for women can be life-changing! They affect just about everything: skin, hair, nails, memory, mood, libido, energy, anxiety, depression, muscle mass, vulvovaginal tissue health, orgasm, sleep patterns, cognition (our ability to think clearly), brain health, heart health, urinary tracts, and so much more!
Do not settle for your medical provider explaining away your symptoms with excuses! “You’re a woman,” “you are too young for problems,” “you are stressed,” you have a career,” “you have a family,” “you are in school,” “This isn’t even the worst of it!” Hormone therapy is as much a right for women as it is for anyone, yet women are often dismissed when seeking relief to improve their quality of life. If you are having problems with one or more of the mentioned symptoms above, then we can help!
A woman’s sexuality encompasses a complex range of processes that have a profound impact on her emotional and physical well-being. A woman’s sexual health is the gateway to her overall health, and it is Dr. Mel’s goal to educate, inform, and empower all women about their sexuality. Significant gains have been made in healthcare regarding pregnancy and cancer outcomes, but sexual health issues are frequently overlooked and mismanaged.
Women of all ages can suffer from hormone imbalances. Hormones will fluctuate throughout the course of a woman’s lifespan. It is important for all women to understand that declining hormones and menopause are a reality for all women and that women will live 30-40% of their lifespan in menopause. Menopause is not a temporary state or symptoms. It is a physiological change in the body when a woman will no longer produce the hormones essential to maintaining her quality of life and health. Symptoms that were once considered conditions of Menopause will often be present for years to decades before the onset of Menopause.
Your first visit with Dr. Mel is very educational and enlightening. She believes in empowering women by informing and educating them on female sexuality. She takes the time to explain to women what they already know, something isn’t right, but have been conditioned by traditional medicine and society to believe their symptoms are normal.
Watch the video below to hear Dr. Mel break down and explain female sexual health and the discrepancies in health care regarding women’s health. Write down your questions and have them ready for Dr. Mel at your first appointment.
How much does it cost for an evaluation?
This is based on the Care Plan and treatment therapy you choose. This can range from once weekly injections in clinic to every 3-4 months for an in-office procedure or a phone call every 3-4 months. Dr. Mel will discuss your options so you can make an informed decision on which treatment plan will best fit your needs.
How often do I have to undergo evaluation when on hormone therapy?
Depending on the therapy option chosen Dr. Mel requires an evaluation of lab work and an assessment and evaluation of lab results every 3-6 months either in office or by phone depending on the treatment option you choose. The cost of the evaluation and lab results reviewed is factored into your Care Plan. Dr. Mel closely monitors her patients to ensure they are safely and effectively receiving the therapy that is right for them.
How do I get started on hormone replacement therapy?
We will send you for a blood test to evaluate your hormone levels and make sure there are no other underlying issues. She will then see you in the office to perform an assessment to formulate the best course of treatment options to fit your needs.
How is testosterone replaced for women?
Hormone replacement therapy for women varies from creams, gels, and patches to injections or pellets. We will discuss all the options available at your first appointment so you can make the best-informed decision that will meet your specific needs.
Is the hormone therapy FDA approved?
Many of the medication options are FDA approved and commercially available. However, for women many of the medications must also be compounded and made fresh at a 503A pharmacy. These pharmacies operate pursuant to standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia and customize medications in small batches that are patient specific and designated by the FDA for home use.
Testosterone pellets are made at a 503B Outsourcing Facility and pursuant to the same Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations as pharmaceutical manufacturers that manufacture FDA approved, commercially available medications and distribution is monitored by the FDA.
Does health insurance cover treatment?
Dr. Mel does not accept insurance, but if you are a non-Medicare patient you can submit a claim to your own insurance company for reimbursement purposes. Your lab work and some forms of hormone therapy may be covered by your health insurance. Check with your individual health plan for coverage details. We do accept HAS (health savings account) cards for all treatments and services.
