What is PRP Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies are growing increasingly popular across all areas of health and wellness. Part of the appeal of these therapies is that they utilize the patient’s own blood cells to help accelerate healing in a specific area of the body. The site being healed is targeted through the injection location.
By using your own blood, PRP therapies are safe to use and can even be used alongside other procedures with no fear of associated complications.
Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements, plasma, which is the liquid portion of your blood, and platelets, a blood cell that plays an essential role in healing. While platelets are most commonly known for their clotting abilities, they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and tissue regeneration, which leads to healing in the treated area.
Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains a higher concentration of platelets than normal.
It is collected by extracting a sample of blood from the patient and then spinning it in a centrifuge, which is a machine that spins the blood at high speed to extract the platelets.
What Does the O-Shot Do?
When injected into the vagina, platelets naturally attract stem cells to the injected area, which generates healthier and more functional tissue.
When it comes to the O-shot, it is injected into the areas of the vagina responsible for sexual response, which includes the G-spot, O-spot, Urethra, Vaginal Wall, and Skene’s Glands.
This can produce results such as:
- increased sensation
- increased orgasm likelihood
- greater arousal from clitoral stimulation
- more frequent and stronger orgasms
- younger and smoother vulva skin
- decreased pain during sex
- improvement in urinary incontinence
- increased natural lubrication
On the day of your procedure, you will receive a topical numbing cream before a small blood sample is drawn. This sample will then be spun in a centrifuge to create the platelet-rich plasma and turned into a serum before being injected back into the penis. Most women find that after their procedure, they are able to continue with their day with no downtime.
Some people choose to have just one shot, while others may have another a few months after the first in order to build upon the existing results.
Some individuals may see results immediately, but the full results often take three months to come into effect. Sensation in the vagina may increase in the first 3-7 days, but it takes 3-9 weeks for the new tissue to develop, which peaks around three months.
The results typically last up to 18 months.
What Conditions Can an O-Shot Help With?
Sexual Function
For those who struggle to orgasm, whether because of a lack of desire or from painful sex, the O-shot may be able to help with these situations.Menopausal women often notice a change in sex, and what was once enjoyable may no longer feel that way, perhaps because of dryness in the vagina. The O-shot can increase natural lubrication, making sex more pleasurable and increasing the likelihood of an orgasm.
For those who struggle to orgasm from penetrative sex alone, the O-shot may also increase the sensitivity of the vaginal walls, increasing the likelihood of orgasming in this way.
Low Libido
Low libido can have many causes, such as environmental, physical, or mental. No matter the reason, it can be frustrating to have low sexual desire, especially if you want to enjoy your partner’s company but are never “in the mood.”The O-shot can help to increase sexual desire in those with low libido, and its ability to increase sensitivity may also help increase sexual desire.
Incontinence
For those with incontinence issues, the O-shot may help remedy these problems due to its ability to encourage growth in the pelvic floor muscles, increasing their ability to control the bladder.Lichen Sclerosis
This is a condition that can affect the vulva, resulting in itchy skin that can be quite uncomfortable. The O-shot has the ability to create smoother skin of the vulva, and through this process can remove the rough and itchy patches of lichen sclerosis, significantly lowering the amount of discomfort.
